Re: [ Primera] P11-120 SE SR20DEH
My lifelong dream is finally happening.
Yesterday I took some time to swap the front seats. I also did some modification to the driver's seat cushion. As usual, it's the one that wear's out first. Luckily Nissan didn't bother to design different seats for the LHD and RHD models, so it could be swapped easily, only the fitting bolts are mounted in different holes. So basicly, I took the cushion from my old passenger seat and the seat "bucket" from my old driver's seat. The cover appeared to be in quite good condition.
Here are a few overall pictures of the current situation. GT front door cards and seats.
I also bought a complete set of P11-144 kick plates with some chrome. They were available as a dealer option back in the day.
Rear.
Front. Notice how shitty the front seat looks in this picture.
And this is how it looks at the moment.

Re: [ Primera] P11-120 SE SR20DEH
Up indeed.
First of all, thank you a thousand times Janusz for your generosity. I am going to spare the new OEM plugs for my upcoming new engine.
So, what's new? As I told you guys before, I installed the GT interior. All except the rear door cards. That will have to wait a bit longer. Yeasterday I went to change the wheels again. On my way to the destination, the steering wheel started to vibrate and shake like there's no tomorrow and I was almost certain that I'm going off road. I pulled over, checked the wheel nuts and air pressure. Everything seemed normal. I continued my journey for another 15km and then the same vibration started again. I stopped and carried on. While I was changing the wheels, I inspected every joint, bearing, control arm etc. for excessive play. Nothing was found. I scratched my head for a while and then I took a look at the rh- side front wheel. The balancing weights were missing! As you know, you're supposed to use adhesive weights on alloy wheels. Somehow the adhesive had peeled off and the weight disappeared into the wilderness. After fitting the summer wheels, the whole problem was gone.
Today I washed the car and vacuum cleaned the interior.
At the moment I'm going to take a short brake with the primera and focus on the lada instead.

Re: [ Primera] P11-120 SE SR20DEH
It's been a long time since I've written anything in here. I have a good excuse ; I just haven't had any time to do so.
As we speak, we're experiencing the worst heatwave in a decade. With the air conditioning out of order in the Primera, it is unbearable to drive now. The half leather seats don't make it any easier. I've been planning to take it to a specialist since AC is something that I'm not comfortable repairing. Might be something broken since the compressor does not even start. I should take a closer look to the whole system, but for now, I'm far too busy.
As I mentioned earlier, janusz showed extreme kindness once again by providing me with OEM RC9MCC4 plugs. I have to admit that they are alot better than any NGK's I've ever used before. Engine operates alot more stable and so on.
Here's the part number for those who don't know it yet.
I also experienced a failuri with the drivetrain. Every once in a while the steering wheel started to vibrate like hell. Didn't really happen at certain speeds, but sometimes it felt like the car is gonna break down and I'm going off the road. I tested every possible joint and link in the front and everything seemed to be allright. I even went to a local garage to borrow their lift and came to a conclusion that the inner cv- joint on the rh- driveshaft was causing it all. Since the shaft itself was original, I didn't even bother to just replace the joints. I wen't and bought a new one.
The whole shaft seemed to be alot more "heavy duty" when compared to the original. It seems that it might even accept universal cv joint boots, unlike the OEM unit.
That's basicly all that's happened since last time. Now I'm planning of finally starting to disassemble the spare parts car.

Re: [ Primera] P11-120 SE SR20DEH
Not much has happened since I've been busy with work and fixing the Lada.
I still haven't had time to start the engine removal from the GT.
Some other issues have appeared though.
-The engine movement has increased dramatically. Maybe the aftermarket mounts are giving up, who knows.
-The clutch is on it's way out because of the leaking rear main seal.
-Wiper motor autopark- function has seized to work. I'm planning to restore one from the GT.
-The lh- side driveshaft has began to wobble also. I'm planning to get a new one from the GT also.
Now, these are only a matter of time and money. Unfortunately I'm lacking both at the moment. It would be easy to just go and do a clutch overhaul, but I really don't wanna do anything special to the old motor, since It's coming off anyway.
Just to lighten up the post a bit, I made some decals I've been planning to do for a long time.
I know, they might be of a bad taste, but so is my humour

I also noticed that the engine runs much better on the OEM spark plugs Also I think that you should check flexible brake lines.
The trouble with vibrate might has source in inner joint - joint housing.

Cv joints are on their way out, thats for sure. I don't think it's wise to renovate the old one since I have one that's almost new.
I totally agree with the soul thing. I think that my Primera is a bit mad at me since I've been driving the Lada mostly.

If you've got almost new shaft, replace it. The cost of renovation might be similar or higher than the new joint. But previously, drain the oil from the gearbox.

Re: [ Primera] P11-120 SE SR20DEH
Once again I ended this year's driving season for the Lada and now it's time to focus on the P11 again.
First of all, I decided to repair the trailer hook socket holder before it fell off completely. For some reason they are prone to rust away. I just said, fuck it, let's make it out of stainless steel!
I used the water jet cutter that I operate at work to cut the billet. Then I just had to make a 90 degree bend and it was ready to be installed. I even bought a new socket just for the hell of it.
Here's the ready made part.
And here's a couple photos of it installed. I know, I need a better camera.
My next issue was the windshield wiper motor's autopark- function. It basicly stopped the blades where ever it wanted. I had read earlier from the NPOC forum that the whole thing is caused by the original lube gumming up to the contacts. So, nothing that I couldn't handle.
I took the motor off my spare part car and repaired it. For future maintenance, I tapped the old rivet holes with M5 to ease up the dissassembly.
While I was at it, I even repaired my old motor. Now I have a spare part in case of a failure.
I had been searching for a long time the original windshield cowling attachment screws. Luckily my spare part car had them and even the whole cowling was in better condition than mine.
I had plans to replace my LH- driveshaft with the one from my spare part car. Well, eventually I did. Everything was ok until I drove back home from the countryside. I found out that the outer CV- boot had bursted and puked out all the grease. I first thought of purchasing a new outer joint kit, but I came into a conclusion, that it would be smarter to just buy a completely new axle, since I need the car daily. Btw, the repair kit would have costed a bit over half the price of the new axle that I bought.
Now I have new axles made by BGA on both sides. This one came even with a balancing rubber.
So far, that's all I've done. Well, I swapped back to winter tires, but that's another story.

Re: [ Primera] P11-120 SE SR20DEH
My rear brake discs & pads were replaced nearly three years and 73kkm ago. They had worn to the point that my handbrake was useless and the disc had some serious grooves and corrosion. The pads had some lifespan left, but better replace it all at once. Slide pins were regreased and the calipers worked like a dream, so no further actions had to be taken.
New parts installed.
If you know me, then you know that I'm a paranoid of following given specs with everything. If something is out of these specs, then it has to be repaired. The car has been driven for 53kkm's since the overhaul, so I thought I'd check out the compression again. This proved once again, that the repair was a success. A perfectly even compression of 13 bar in every cylinder.
Now that I have cleared out some previous issues, I'm getting new ones. I recently noticed a little thing called Code 34 popping out while checking for fault codes. So it's time for a new knock sensor. My only problem is, that I don't really wanna spend over 100 euros on a new OEM one, so do you guys have any ideas of a good aftermarket solution?

Re: [ Primera] P11-120 SE SR20DEH
It's time for an update. Alot has happened with the Primera. The knock sensor code keeps appearing alot more often now. Janusz was kind enough to send me a replacement one, but unfortunately the part never arrived. Or at least hasn't at the moment. Hopefully it gets here, otherwise I'm gonna have to improvise something.
As I've learned from here, stock engine mounts can be strenghtened using some high quality polyurethane mass. I couldn't find the exact same that Janusz used, but this one was close enough. It quarantees a hardness more than 45 shore when completely cured.
I applied the product to my old mounts from a P11 GX. The whole reason why I did this was the poor quality of aftermarket mounts. They were way too soft.
After the product had cured for 10 days, I finally installed the mounts.
The final result? A lot less engine movement. A little vibration can be felt with the engine at idle and when cruising @ 2000rpm. Otherwise I'm happy with the result.
My next task was to install new brake discs & pads to the front also. I chose Brembo- pads and ABS- discs. Why? Because they were available at the store during that time.
Finally I got a new phone as a christmas gift, so I thoght I'd test out the camera.

Re: [ Primera] P11-120 SE SR20DEH
Up.
My knuckle arm bearing were replaced in late 2015 at a Nissan service while I was busy at a mandatory military excercise. Now need replacement again. The bearings seemed to be of good quality, so the only possible reason for such fast failure could be lack of lubrication. I ordered a set of new similiar bearings (KANACO) and opened them up. What I saw was the absence of grease. Normally this would be sufficient, but in this case more is needed.
Lower bearing.
Both bearings.
I've had only good experiences with this product, so I decided to pack the bearings with it.
This should be enough to lubricate and prevent premature corrosion.
Finally I assembled the bearings and wiped off excess grease
The following pics contain part numbers and so on.
Now I only need time to replace them. It's -20'C outside as we speak, so a warm garage would be needed.
I also ordered a set of new lower control arms. I'm planning to restore the old ones by sandblasting and powdercoating them. Bushings will be replaced with poly and a new ball joint will be installed. For now I'm going to use these. They're made by YAMATO.
It had been over a year since I last replaced both of the air filters. I bought a Mahle LX307 for the engine and BOSCH M2058 for the cabin.
Old cabin filter, cannot remember the mileage nor brand of this.
New one is made by Bosch.
New vs. old after 19251km's. This is the best air filter I've seen so far. It actually stops impurities from entering the engine, unlike Mann that stayed nearly as clean as new.

The parts were ordered from an estonian webshop. The same parts cost about twice as much in Finland.

Re: [ Primera] P11-120 SE SR20DEH
Today I washed the Primera and since it was a nice frosty day, I took some pictures.
Re: [ Primera] P11-120 SE SR20DEH
I think that many of your winter photos should be found in calendar.
By the way
Why did you replace the bearings? What was a reason?

Re: [ Primera] P11-120 SE SR20DEH
You are free to use my photos in your calendar, just let me know which one.
I haven't replaced them yet. The reason why I'm planning to do so is that the lower bearings have corroded badly and have some play in them now.

Re: [ Primera] P11-120 SE SR20DEH
After a frustrating wait of 1 month and 18 days, I got the carefully packed letter that Janusz had sent me.
Now I only have to arrange some time and it's bye bye for code 34.
